North Penn Finishes 7th Out of 12 at Five Star Duals
BERWYN --- The North Penn Knights went 2-2 on the second day of the Five Star Duels at Conestoga High School, placing 7th out of 12 teams in the two-day competition. Red Lion High School from District Three was the overall champion. Saturday, the Knights defeated Sun Valley and West Chester Henderson before losing to Avon Grove and Conestoga. Overall, North Penn went 3-4 for the weekend. Against Sun Valley, North Penn won nine of 14 bouts, including the first seven, en route to a 41-26 victory. Wrestling began at 112, and after back-to-back technical falls by Tyler Romano (112) and Matt Prestifilippo (119), the Knights were off to a good start. Mike Incollingo (130), Dominic Colangelo (145) and Tyler Smith (215) won their matches by fall. The Knights then defeated West Chester Henderson, 31-30, but needed the third tiebreaker criteria to do so. Going into the final match of the duel, North Penn trailed the Warriors by six, but Matt Prestifilippo pinned Zac Demi at 112 to knot the score at 30-30. Tiebreaker criteria came into play, and the third criteria (most pins), gave the decisive point to North Penn, two pins to one. Tommy Prykowski had the other pin for North Penn in the opening match at 119. Avon Grove slipped past North Penn, 42-37, in the first placement match for the Knights. The bouts were evenly split, 7-7, but the Devils had six pins and one forfeit victory for the decisive bonus points. Mike Incollingo, Bobby Ashton, Matt Prestifilippo, and Tommy Prykowski pinned for North Penn. The Knights led, 15-12, after five matches, but Avon Grove rattled off five six-point wins in a row (four falls, one forfeit) from 152-215 to take control of the match, 42-15. North Penn would win the final four bouts for the final margin. In the last placement match of the day, Conestoga thumped North Penn, 46-18. The Pioneers never trailed in the match, picking up two wins by forfeit, and three more by fall. The last bout of the duel was the featured matchup, as two of the area's top 125-pounders, Mike Incollingo and Jack Chidester, squared off. Chidester used four takedowns to build a big lead, and held off Incollingo in the third period to win, 11-5. The Knights (11-10 overall, 1-3 SOL National) had two wrestlers go a perfect 7-0 this weekend. Matt Prestifilippo had three technical falls, two pins, and two major decisions at 112 and 119, and Tony Lozzi had two pins, two major decisions, and three regular decisions at heavyweight. Tommy Prykowski was 6-1 at 119 and 125, while Mike Incollingo (125-130) and Dominic Colangelo (145-152) both went 5-2. Next up for the Knights is a Suburban One National matchup at Harry S Truman on Wednesday night.
