Prestifilippo Captures Title, Incollingo Third at Regionals

HOLLAND – Matt Prestifilippo became North Penn's first regional champion since 2003, as he captured gold at 112 pounds by beating Upper Moreland's Tim Santry, 3-2, Saturday night at Council Rock South High School. By winning his weight class, Prestifilippo, a junior, qualified for states for the first time. He will be joined in Hershey by senior Mike Incollingo, who finished third at 125 pounds to earn his first state berth.

The two state qualifiers are the first for North Penn since 2003, when the Knights sent four to states (Joe Radicioni, John Deery, Brandon Hill and Zac Fryling).

Prestifilippo battled with Santry throughout his championship match. The two wrestlers traded escapes for the only points of the match until Prestifilippo scored the decisive takedown on a double-leg shot with 10 seconds to go in the match. He is the first 112-pound regional champion for North Penn since David Witte won gold in 2000.

Earlier in the day, Prestifilippo secured a spot at states with a 17-2 technical fall of Council Rock South's Matt Rappo. He will enter the state tournament on a 23-match winning streak.

Incollingo had to earn his way to states through the wrestlebacks, as he lost, 10-0, to Kennett's Kyle Bove in the semifinals. He needed to defeat Unionville's Joe Bonaduce in the consolation semifinals to clinch a berth, and he did just that by pinning Bonaduce in 3:45.

For the third time in as many weeks, Incollingo ended a tournament with a win over Quakertown's Briar Malischewsky, defeating the freshman, 7-2, in the consolation finals.

Incollingo and Prestifilippo begin their quest for state hardware Thursday night at the Giant Center in Hershey.
