Knights Struggle at the Beast of the East
NEWARK, DE – The North Penn Knights had a rough first day at the Beast of the East Tournament on the campus of the University of Delaware on Saturday . Junior Randy Haun was the only Knight to make it to the second day of the competition. The 152-pounder went 3-1 on the day, including a win by fall over Mark Cyron of Salesianum (DE) in the first round. Senior Matt Prestifilippo entered the tournament as the seventh seed, but went 3-2 and was eliminated in the fourth round of consolations.
Prestifilippo was relegated to the consolation bracket after being upset in the first round, 6-4, by Salesianum's Danny Graham, but battled back to win three in a row before falling to Jeff Canfora of Delbarton (NJ), 3-2. Dominic Colangelo had a tough draw at 145 pounds, as he sandwiched losses to the top two seeds around a major decision victory. Will Bachert had to default out of the tournament after injuring his shoulder in his opening bout at 171. Day two of the Beast of the East starts Sunday morning , with wrestling beginning at 9 AM .
