Knights Solid Over Phantoms, 55-21
Phoenixville – The North Penn Knights looked solid beating the Phoenixville Phantoms, 55-21, in their non-league wrestling match Saturday. Phoenixville (0-2, 3-6 PAC-10) gave up three forfeits to pad the Knights score but North Penn won 7 of the 11 matches wrestled, 5 for pins, for a clear win. After Greg Lacoff collected a forfeit at 135, Drew Daubert (140) started quick with a takedown in the first 15 seconds of the match but started bleeding. The bleeding continued to be a problem so that early in the match Daubert had run out of blood time even though he was winning. In high school wrestling you are only given five minutes of blood time and if the bleeding can't be controlled the match is forfeit. To avoid the forfeit Coach Shettsline packed Daubert's nose and circled his head several times with tape as blood time expired. Daubert finished the match with his head fully bandaged and got the pin in the third period. Randy Haun (152) and George Shipp (189) collected convincing pins on both sides of back-to-back forfeits to Austin Gallagher (160) and Will Bachart (171). Just as North Penn lead the match 36-3 the Phantoms mounted a comeback with three straight pins bringing the team score to 36-21. But that would be the end of scoring for Phoenixville as Matt DiNenno (112) won a decision, Ervin Gaitan (119) and Evan Conti (125) got first period pins and Tyler Romano (130) finished the bout with a major decision.
